Anomalinoides dividens Luczkowska 1967 is known as an index species for the stratigraphy of the Middle Miocene in the Paratethys. Its abundance clearly marks the regional Badenian/Sarmatian (mid Serravallian) stratigraphic boundary. A review of the literature suggests that similar morphologies have been described under different species names; therefore, the use of the senior synonym Anomalinoides globulosus (Chapman and Parr 1937) is recommended. This review demonstrates that the species is not endemic to the Paratethys, to which it probably migrated from the Indo-Pacific region during the mid Serravallian.
