The collection of Silurian, late Wenlock to early Ludlow foraminiferal type specimens of Dr. D. M. Grubbs from the Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago, Illinois, USA is examined. The holotypes and paratypes of Grubbs’ six species, all from the Racine Dolomite of the Chicago area, including the type species of the genus Arenosiphon Grubbs 1939, are rephotographed, re-illustrated, redescribed, and classified according to modern systematics of agglutinated foraminifers. The generic affiliations of some species are changed. The species Sorosphaera irregularis is assigned to the genus Webbinelloidea, and the species Lagenammina cornuta to the genus Saccammina. A neotype is proposed for the species Thurammina cylindrica. The family Lacustrinellidae Mikhalevich 1995 is moved to the superfamily Saccamminoidea Brady 1884 from the superfamily Psammosphaeroidea Haeckel 1894. The type specimens of the species Placopsilina? lineata are recognized to be silicified parts of bryozoans, not foraminifers.
